Creating your own personal brand is a multi-step process that begins by asking yourself a lot of questions.
What is Your Niche? Who is Your Target Audience?
Start at the beginning. Sounds simple but this can be a step overlooked by many people.
- What is the business you want to promote?
- Have you narrowed it down to a specific market yet?
Determining your niche and your target market is so important. You don’t want to be ‘all things to all people’ but you do want to be ‘the best provider of products to your specific people’, your target market.
Once you know what your niche is, you can better understand what specific needs your audience has that you can address. After all, you want to be a ‘solutions provider’ to your target market. All of this needs to be conveyed in your personal brand.
Get Your Message Across with Your Personal Brand
When creating your personal brand, help your audience understand who you are and the values you adhere to. This is not done directly of course, but is reflected in the way you promote yourself, your business and your products or services.
Ask yourself a few questions:
- What image do you want to project to your audience? How would you like them to think of you? What is it about you that they should know or should come through in your communications with them?
- If you are selling ‘Life Coaching’ services for example, then of course you will want to convey the image of a successful coach. What represents a successful life coach to you? This is exactly what you will want your audience to perceive in you.
- Assuming that you want them to see you as an expert in your field, ask yourself the question…What does an expert in my field look like? Think of examples that will illustrate your expertise.
- Now ask yourself another very important question. What sets you apart from all the other Life Coaches? Why should potential customers buy your services rather than from someone else?
- What contributed to your decision to be a Life Coach? Is there a ‘brand story’ that can be told here? This will help you build relationships with your potential clients, help them to relate to you and do business with you.
No matter what services or products you are promoting, these are some of the questions you should ask yourself in order to learn how to create your personal brand.
