The short answer to this question is that it is malware and a scam. Stay as far away from it as you possibly can. It was discovered in June of 2010 and is distributed in several ways. It might appear via email or fake websites, hacked sites or even shared by friends who don’t know any better or by their emails getting hijacked.
This is how it works….Unlike many malware programs, this one is a Trojan. It does not self replicate but requires you to install it on your computer.
It is a rogue antivirus program. They come from fake websites or attach themselves to other malware programs you might be inadvertently installing.
It gives the appearance of being legitimate by telling you that it has scanned your computer and has found numerous critical problems that need to be addressed immediately. It will give you a long, very impressive looking list of problems which in fact do not even exist! They have been totally made up. It will display numerous fake warnings, including on your task bar.
When you want to take care of these problems, you are taken to an activation page where you have to pay for the software to fix the problem. Again, these problems do not exist. It will attach itself to many registry files on your computer and set itself up to launch every time you boot up your computer.
How to Remove IS2010
This is NOT easy. It will require that you understand how to deal with program files, .dll files, registry entries and other processes. If you are clueless how to do this then you will want to contact your technical support people who provide you with your antivirus/antispyware programs.
You can remove IS2010 manually but it causes some major issues that can keep your computer from running properly. You would need to know how to operate your computer in safe mode, how to change your account privileges to simple user and more.
Always Know What You Are Downloading On Your Computer
The best solution is prevention. Make sure you are using a tried and tested best practice anti-spyware and antivirus program. Of utmost importance is to make sure that you run updates on your computer regularly so that malicious programs are more easily detected and removed. If you don’t have a security program that does this…get one.
If you have expertise in running your computer in safe mode and know how to delete registry files etc, then you will find instructions on the web as to how to do it. I’m deliberately not giving those instructions here as I have not tried them myself.
What to Do Should You Need an Expert
If you find yourself in the predicament of having this terrible program on your computer, contact your antivirus/anti-spyware technical support and follow their advice. In most instances, they will offer to remove the problem Trojan for you but that usually comes with a price as well, so know this going into it.
