People who consistently use Twitter really like this social media platform. The 140 character entries that you post, which are called ‘tweets’; must be short and to the point. As of September 2010, Twitter was boasting of having 145 million registered users. This doesn’t mean that 145 million people are using it daily. Those in the “twitterverse” typing messages all the time, makes it important that your avatar stand out in the crowd.
Get yourself noticed on Twitter for all the right reasons by creating a unique avatar. If you don’t know, an avatar is a representation of the writer. It can be a photo, a cartoon, a logo, or a graphic design. What it cannot be is animated. Twitter has changed its rules and animations are no longer allowed.
How Do You Decide What to Use for an Avatar?
First, think about having a photo of yourself. Lots of folks use photos. Take care when choosing a photo because some photos don’t “show” well. When this is the case, you may not get others to click on your profile to learn more about you.
- Don’t use a photo taken from your phone unless the camera is 3 mega pixels or higher. Your best bet is to use a digital camera and let someone else take the picture. Be sure that the lighting is good if you are taking a photo of your face. You want to be able to see who you are since the avatar will be small in size.
- Don’t have a cluttered or busy background as this detracts from the photo.
- Make the photos sensible and don’t be doing silly thing if you want to project a professional attitude.
- Edit your photo according to Twitter’s specifications. All photos are made square by Twitter so consider this when deciding what image to use for your avatar.
- Upload it to a photo editor and make adjustments if needed. Add color and shading if you wish. Make it interesting, but clear to see. Otherwise you are wasting your time.
- Fuzzy doesn’t work for anyone. The image should be clear and crisp.
- Planning on using your business lobo? Be sure that the logo is clear and viewers can tell what it is.
- Using text is not the norm but definitely used. Make sure it is legible in a small size.
- Be creative; try different angles, colors, and backgrounds. Remember that the focus is on you and not the background.
Having a good looking, unique and clever avatar will definitely help attract more followers.
